Dreams of Goan filmmakers shattered, says Kamat

Promises Goan film fraternity once Congress government comes to power in 2022 it will activate Goa Film Finance Scheme and ensure Goan films are given rightful recognition at IFFI

MARGAO: The dreams of Goan filmmakers are shattered once again as Dream Girl Hema Malini inaugurated the 52nd International Film Festival of India, on Saturday, stated Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat.

He also said the Entertainment Society of Goa (ESG) under the insensitive BJP government headed by Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant continues to insult Goan films by not including them in the official sections of the IFFI.

LoP further alleged that it is most unfortunate that the ESG has failed to even announce the selected films for the so-called Goan Premier Section just hours before the inaugural function of the 52nd IFFI. This exposes the lethargic and irresponsible approach of the BJP government towards local film fraternity.

“I want to again remind the people of Goa that Goan films have been given second class treatment from the time BJP came to power in 2012. Every year only after demand from the Opposition, the ESG has performed formality of screening Goan films in non-official sections of the film festival,” he stated.

LoP demanded that the Chief Minister must come clean on what is the exact status of the Goan Film Section announced by the ESG and what benefits the local filmmakers will get after screening their films in IFFI-2021.

“I want to promise to the Goan film fraternity that once the Congress government comes to power in 2022, we will fully activate the Goa Film Finance Scheme and ensure that Goan films are given their rightful recognition in the International Film Festival of India,” Digambar assured.
