PANJIM: The crowd at the beaches remains unaffected despite COVID-19 scare as Drishti lifesaving services claims to have recorded seven rescues and three medical emergencies over the weekend. The State has witnessed 42 rescues so far since January 1, 2022.
The Drishti lifeguards at Morjim made triple rescues. “Morjim saw a triple rescue, where two males and one female aged 24-32 years were rescued by Drishti lifesaver equipped with a rescue tube. On witnessing the situation, bystander Cedwyn Menezes, who had been picnicking on the beach, assisted the lifesaver. Together they brought the three victims to safety,” reads a press statement.
It further said that thereafter there was a double rescue at Palolem River of which two men aged 29 and 30 years from Hyderabad were rescued with a rescue tube. There were single rescues at Betalbatim and Mandrem, where an elderly man aged 64 years from Bengaluru and another youth aged 27 years from Delhi were rescued by lifesavers with rescue boards respectively.
“Subsequently, there were three medical emergencies wherein the victims had difficulty in breathing and oxygen had to be administered to them. All victims were immediately rushed to the ambulance and shifted to the hospital,” it said.
