Drive against commercial use of non-transport vehicles launched

PANJIM: Transport Department launched a month-long special drive against the illegally operated non-transport vehicles for the commercial purpose in the State.

Director of Transport Nikhil Desai has issued a memorandum to all the regional transport offices of both the districts to comply with the order and ensure that such activities be penalised as per the Motor Vehicle Act.
The circular signed by Desai on December 5 while the drive commenced in the State from Wednesday.
“In order to curb the rampant violations of use of non-transport vehicles registered under private registration number for commercial activities and for transportation of goods or for the hire purpose to transport passengers, it has been decided to undertake a special drive against all such violators for the month of December 2017, during which period such violations are found to be maximum due to tourism season”, the memorandum states.   
Transport Department will also penalise the drivers who will be carrying out such activities without having the valid batch of driving commercial vehicles.
