PONDA: The driver and the cleaner of a truck were injured and got trapped in the cabin Tuesday after the vehicle went off the road and plunged into a rivulet near an under-construction culvert at Pratapnagar, Dharbandora. The mishap took place at around 2.45 pm.
According to police, the driver was speeding and lost control of the vehicle when he reached the accident spot, as the road there is narrow.
When contacted, police said the victims were alive and the rescue operation was still on then. The load of the truck and an overhead electric cable were hindering the rescue operation, due to which the rescue work could go on till late night, police added.
Later, the fire personnel rescued the cleaner trapped in the cabin by cutting off its metal door.
Meanwhile, the locals criticised the government for not dispatching proper machinery for rescue operation in time of such emergency. They said that the spot is an accident prone zone where many accidents have occurred.
The accident paralysed traffic on the route for many hours; and the oil from the vehicle turned rivulet water into black.
