PANJIM: The Panjim Traffic Cell on Tuesday imposed penalty on a Mercedes Benz car driver, after a video of the car being driven on the footpath of 18 June Road went viral drawing flak from the people.
From the flooded road, the car bearing registration number GA 05 F 1116 moved onto the footpath amidst heavy rains. The video, shot by a local, went viral after which the Traffic Police immediately summoned the car driver along with the vehicle.
Inspector General of Police Jaspal Singh took to social media appreciating the expose. “Thank you for bringing this to our notice. Vehicle was challaned today and fine was realised from the violator.”
The Panjim Traffic Cell detained the Mercedes Benz. A challan under Section R 15(2)(ii) of RRR read with 177 of MV Act and under Section 184 of MV Act was issued to the driver Neetin Naik, a resident of Volvoi in Ponda for Rs 700 and the same was compounded.
The driver was also issued challan for driving rash and negligently on the public foothpath, the PI informed.
