MARGAO: The Margao Urban Health Centre (UHC) has carried out drives against vector-borne diseases in the town in view of concerns of dengue and chikungunya cases.
Residents in areas where there have been such cases in the past were advised to maintain clean surroundings and not to allow water to stagnate in pots, cans, tyres, coconut shells, discarded items etc as these could be breeding grounds for mosquitoes. The health officials were creating awareness since the mosquito that transmits dengue can breed even in small pools of water collected on sunshades. Fogging exercises and spraying of anti-larvae chemicals were also carried out.
The public was also urged to test themselves immediately if they show symptoms so that they can be treated early in case they had contracted any of the vector-borne diseases.
The health officials however stated that the situation is under control and there is no outbreak.
