It was Benaulim MLA, Venzy Viegas, who expressed concern over the growing trend of drug use among youngsters, stating that “weed is a new need” for them. He demanded that the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) take action against pastry shops selling Marijuana-infused cakes and brownies. Viegas also emphasized the need to promote anti-drug advertisements on all Government websites to address the seriousness of the situation.
However, Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant acknowledged the concern and assured an investigation into the matter. However, he mentioned that checking all cafes could disturb businesses. Instead, the narcotics bureau will be involved to examine flagged or suspicious locations to address the issue effectively.
In response, Viegas further highlighted the urgency of the issue, stating that the kids under the influence of drugs are not in their senses. He called for intelligence agencies to be vigilant in identifying cafes that offer such drugs to people.
