Drugs worth over Rs 1.75 cr seized from Russian at Morjim

Cops keep name of accused under wraps, say looking out for more partners in crime

PANJIM: In a biggest haul of drugs of the year, the Anti-Narcotic Cell (ANC) of Goa police arrested a Russian drug dealer allegedly with narcotics worth Rs 1.75 crore in the international market.

According to the police, the Russian national was found in the possession of two kgs of high quality hydroponic weed, 1.2 kgs of charas, which is a commercial quantity, and 15 grams of LSD liquid also being commercial quantity.

The ANC sleuths maintained a discreet surveillance from the past several weeks and through human intelligence and technical surveillance, the Anti-Narcotic Cell cracked down on the Russian national and detained him at Morjim.

The accused was found in possession of the contraband which is worth over Rs 1.75 crore in the international market.

The police are also conducting a probe to ascertain his further linkages if any.

Police sources informed that the Russian national had brought the huge quantity of drugs and intended to supply and distribute the same during the ongoing tourist season within the party circuit.

The ANC police are also trying to find out whether such a huge quantity of drugs have been procured through the dark net and suspect that the payment may be done through crypto currency.

The police are also conducting a probe to ascertain his further linkages if any.

The raid was led by Lady Police Sub Inspector (LPSI) Priyanka Garodi along with head constable Umesh Dessai and  constables Nitesh Mulgaonkar, Sandesh Volvoikar, Mandar Naik, Amit Salunke, Makarand Ghadi, Yogesh Madgaonkar and Laxman Mhamal, police driver Kundan Patekar and lady constable Velsia Fernandes.

The raid was conducted under the supervision of ANC PI Sajith Pillai and the entire raid was minutely monitored by DySP (ANC) Nerlon Albuquerque and SP (ANC) Bossuet Silva.

The case is being further investigated by PSI Pravin Simepurushkar.
