PANJIM: In its drive against drug trafficking, the Anti Narcotic Cell (ANC) of Goa Police conducted narcotic raids at two different locations within a few hours and arrested two persons for being in possession of drugs worth Rs 10.05 lakh and Rs six lakh respectively.
In the first case, the ANC police arrested one Luis S Ronaldo Fernandes, a 25-year-old man and a resident of Guirim, Sangolda, where he was found to be in possession of 100 grams methamphetamine, a commercial quantity and 50 grams of ganja, all worth Rs 10.05 lakh.
Based upon human intelligence and technical surveillance, the ANC team laid a trap and apprehended the accused with commercial quantity of methamphetamine.
The raid was led by PSI Pravin Simepurushkar along with head constable Pramod Kalangutkar and constables Nitesh Mulgaonkar, Mandar Naik and Sandesh Volvoikar.
In the second raid conducted at Mala-Panjim, the ANC team arrested one Sulesh Kumar Sadayal, a resident of Goa Velha, Tiswadi, with six kilograms of ganja, worth Rs six lakh.
The ANC was tracking the accused, who was under the radar, and apprehended him with the contraband.
197 drug peddlers arrested from Jan to Dec 21 this year: CM
PANJIM: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said that as many as 197 drug peddlers have been arrested in the State from January to December 2023 and 204-kg drugs worth Rs 8.38 crore seized.
“From January 1 to December 21, 2023, 197 drug peddlers or dealers have been arrested and from them 204 kg of drugs such as cocaine, charas or ganja have been seized. The value of seized drugs is Rs 8.38 crore. The seized drugs are destroyed at the Biomedical Waste Plant at Kundaim at a specific date every six months,” he said.
“We will not tolerate drugs or prostitution. We do not want this type of tourism. We welcome good tourists but we do not require tourists who spoil the image of the State. If we find restaurants running dance bars or prostitution or if we find that they are looting the tourists in the name of dance bars, through their agents, then the licence of the restaurants will be cancelled and the restaurant will not be allowed to open within six months,” Sawant said.
The Chief Minister said the Goa Police is tracking the cases of human trafficking and making arrests whenever required.
