Dry taps, power fluctuations hit smart city on Wednesday

PANJIM: Taps in Tiswadi taluka went dry for the entire day on Wednesday due to a breakdown at Opa Water Treatment Plant. According to sources, the pumps at the water treatment plant broke down late on Tuesday night.

PWD Chief Engineer Paranjape said that the vertical turns which were damaged have been repaired.
“Pumps were started at 1 pm today (Wednesday) after repairs and by evening the water will start flowing in Tiswadi again,” he said.
The Chief Engineer stated that the Public Works Department Water Supply division pressed into service several water tankers so that people did not suffer. “Tankers were also sent to the GMC and other emergency facilities,” he said.
For the last few days, the taluka, including parts of Panjim, have been witnessing major and frequent power cuts due to several reasons. Last week, the sudden breakdown of Tivim sub-station had resulted in a blackout in the taluka for nearly seven hours. On Wednesday there were power failures and fluctuations throughout the day, as the power station at Altinho suffered a breakdown.
