MARGAO: The Shadow Council for Margao has highlighted the new health hazard hotspot is in the making in the heart of Margao town, at the old fish market. The dry waste baling site in town has become an eyesore.
The SCM said that the baling station of the Margao Municipal Council at the site of the proposed multi-level parking facility is presently overflowing with dry waste bales, and other waste scattered all over.
SCM Convener Savio Coutinho said that the stockpile of the bales of dry waste at the old fish market is turning out to be a great health hazard for the surrounding business establishments and residents.
“With the onset of monsoons, all the material there has been drenched and insects/mosquitoes have started breeding there. A visit to any shop there will greet you with thousands of flies and insects. The shop owners here have brought this to the notice of the Shadow Council for Margao, and indeed it is a very sorry state there,” Coutinho said.
“The MMC should immediately make arrangements to clear the mess there before it becomes a hotspot for diseases such as dengue and malaria,” he further stated.
