Ponda: Locals were horrified as the Dudhsagar river water at Khandepar turned muddy yet again on Thursday.

It was also observed that the river water at Kalay was more polluted than that at Collem.  The locals had earlier complained that unprocessed water from a couple of establishments in Kalay, Sanguem was often discharged into the river.

The engineers of the Water Resources Department stated that they were unable to trace the origin of the pollutants entering the river.

It may be recalled that the Dudhsagar river water has been turning reddish for the last couple of months and it poses risks to those consuming it. This water is supplied from Karmane to Khandepar and other villages through OPA Water Works.

The officials of the Goa State Pollution Control Board had taken samples of the water for examination a few days ago but locals minced no words and alleged that the Board was playing dirty by concealing laboratory test reports and siding with the wrongdoers.
