MARGAO: The farmers who cultivate the fields in Dovondem are upset over plastic waste, Styrofoam and other non-biodegradable waste being dumped along the eastern bypass road from Nuvem to Arlem circle.
“All this plastic is dumped in our fields”, complained Piedade Souza, a farmer.
Pollution Control Board officials informed that only construction debris is allowed to be dumped along the road as a part of the road expansion works.
The plastic waste appears to be packaging material of electronics and other fragile items.
Souza informed that the dumping is done at night. “Who will be responsible if the garbage destroys our crops”, Souza asked.
