PANJIM: The Mapusa Police have arrested two persons and booked two others for allegedly assaulting and threatening police personnel in road rage incident reported at Mapusa.
The accused have been identified as Pavan Tirke from Nachinola and Jovit Coutinho from Aldona.
According to the police, two other accused, Elrich Fernades and Raj Salgaonkar are absconding.
As per the FIR filed at Mapusa Police Station, a minor accident occurred between the vehicle in which the police personnel were travelling and the car of the accused which led to the road rage on Wednesday night.
The accused who were on the run after police arrived at the scene were nabbed from Ucassaim with the help of Mapusa and Bicholim PCR vans.
The video of the road rage between the two groups had gone viral on social media.
According to the police, both Jovit and Elrich were booked for cognizable offences at Mapusa police station earlier too.
In 2021, Jovit was booked under Sections 341 and 302 read with 34 of IPC while a case was registered against Elrich under Sections 427, 435, 447 read with 34 of IPC.
Now, both have been booked under Sections 323, 324, 326, 504, 509 and 506 (ii) read with 34 of IPC in connection with the road rage incident.
The accused have been medically examined and their breath analyser test is conducted and a report is awaited, police said, adding teams have been formed to arrest the other accused.
