Duo in Siolim assault case get 2-day police remand

PERNEM: Pravin Prakash Pathrud of Agarwado, Pernem and his accomplice Jaleel Ahmed, arrested on the charge of brutally assaulting two tourists at Vaddy-Siolim were on Monday remanded in two days police custody by the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC), Mapusa. 

The Anjuna police are also on the lookout for other four assailants involved in the case and are reported to be absconding. Given the fact that the incident occurred at 3:15 am on Sunday in a parking lot of a popular ‘Thalassa’ restaurant, the police have now asked the restaurant owner to produce permissions to ascertain the timings as to till what time he is permitted to keep the venue open.

The police have also started a departmental inquiry to find out as to why the bleeding tourists were made to wait at the Siolim outpost for hours without registering their complaint.

It may be recalled that the two tourists Shailesh Jha (32) and Mohammed Saheed Farooq Ahmed, from Bengaluru were mercilessly assaulted after their vehicle accidentally grazed against a parked two-wheeler. One of the accused Pathrud further allegedly extorted Rs 5,000 from the complainant Shailesh Jha through online transaction and gave dire consequences to them.

Seeing this, the two-wheeler owner Pravin Prakash Pathrud of Agarwado, Pernem snatched the key of the complainant’s car and further along with one Jaleel Ahmed and others with their common intention brutally assaulted the complainant and his friend Farooq Ahmed with slaps, fist blows, kicks and wooden club on their vital body parts causing them multiple injuries with intention to kill them. 

Further, the accused Pathrud allegedly extorted Rs 5,000 from the complainant through online transaction and threatened to kill them.

Both the tourists immediately rushed to the Siolim outpost where the police dilly-dallied in registering the complaint. The injured tourists had a harrowing time at the outpost where they were kept waiting for hours.
