Calangute: The Calangute police arrested two touts Varun Prajapati from Madhya Pradesh and Chandan Gadayi from Orissa for allegedly extorting Rs 48,000 from a native of Gujarat after taking him to a dance bar at Baga on the pretext of ‘providing a girl’ for the night.
According to the tourist, Bhavin Kumar Patel, he was approached by two persons in Baga on Friday evening who said they would take him to a ‘nice’ place.
Patel alleged that the duo allegedly took him to a dance bar where around 15-20 women were present. The duo then told him to pay Rs 8,000.
“They then asked me to pay for the girl and threatened to beat me up when I refused,” stated Patel.
“I was scared and then paid the amount. They then gave me six tokens for alcoholic drinks. I consumed a glass of beer and started feeling giddy. They then told me that I would have to buy drinks for a woman and forced me to cough out Rs 20,000. Using threats of assault, I was altogether looted of Rs 48,000,” Patel claimed.
The next day when he attempted to lodge a police complaint, the hotel staffers where he was staying discouraged him from doing so, claiming that the police would do nothing, the tourist from Ahmedabad told media persons on Sunday.
After the video started going viral on social networking sites, the
Calangute police on Sunday swung into action and arrested two accused- Varun Prajapati from Madhya Pradesh and Chandan Gadayi from Orissa.
“In relation to the video going viral regarding a tourist from Gujarat being harassed at a club in Calangute, it is clarified that action under 386/420 IPC has been taken against the accused by the police and legal proceedings are underway. Report has been sent to SDM also for other legal formalities, if any,” North Goa SP Akshat Kaushal said.
