PANJIM: Against the backdrop of criticism over union minister Prakash Javdekar’s refusal to comment on Mhadei water diversion, Deputy Chief Minister and Agriculture Minister of the State Chandrakant (Babu) Kavlekar has come to his rescue claiming the former’s purpose of Goa visit was to create awareness on the three Agriculture Bills.

“Though Mhadei is a an important issue for the State and one of the ministry that Javdekar heads at the Centre, the purpose of his visit was only about the agriculture bills,” Kavlekar said in a press statement issued on Sunday evening.

Kavlekar was alongside Javdekar during the press conference of the Union minister on Sunday morning, when the latter refused to reply to repeated media questions on Mhadei.

“Although Prakash Javdekar is a Union Minister for Environment too, his sole purpose of this visit was to have a direct interaction with the state’s farmers and clear any doubts if they have on the Agriculture Bills passed by the Centre. Opposition is unnecessarily creating confusion about the three Agriculture bills. Javdekar answered all the questions asked by reporters on the bills. To avoid any sort of misinformation being passed to State’s farmers, he stuck to the main subject of three Agriculture bills even while replying to the questions,” he further said.

Kavlekar instead termed the press conference conducted by Javdekar as “extremely successful.”

As an Agriculture minister of the State, Kavlekar, along with CM Pramod Sawant and BJP State Chief Sadanand Tanavade, gifted 5 different varieties of plants grown at State owned nursery at Old Goa to Javdekar as a token of love from Goans.
