MARGAO: Deputy Chief Minister Chandrakant (Babu) Kavlekar on Saturday hoisted the National Tri-color to mark the 60th year of Goa Liberation. He remembered former Chief Minister late Manohar Parrikar calling him the sculptor of modern Goa.

The Deputy Chief Minister was present at the Goa Liberation Day celebration held at the Matanhy Saldanha Administrative Complex, Margao.

Kavlekar while thanking the freedom fighters of Goa who fought for the liberation from the colonial rule said that Goa is fortunate to have them, who fought for the liberation, which Goa has today.

He said that there has been a great contribution of first Chief Minister of Goa Bhausaheb Bandodkar, Shashikala Tai Kakodkar and also Pratapsingh Rane as chief ministers, who took it for themselves to build a new Goa after the liberation.

“Our former chief minister late Manohar Parrikar was the sculptor of modern Goa. He built the Goa of 21st Century. Parrikar took it to himself to get basic facilities of Goa in place while building new bridges, wide roads,” he said.

He credited Parrikar for NIT, IIT, IFFI and also for bringing in schemes like Ladli Laxmi, Griha Adhar, Cyberage Scheme, and others which are landmarks in the governance.

“The only Goan leader who reached to the top three positions in Government of India, the Union Leader of Defence, on the 60th Liberation Day, we miss Manohar Parrikar,” said Kavlekar.

He congratulated the farmers of Goa who have been declared the winners of the Krishi Bhushan, Krishi Ratna, Krishi Vibhushan, and Special Krishi Awards.

“Goa has come out of the COVID-19 pandemic much earlier and the businesses and regular life began earlier. Even after the worst of economic challenges the development of the State never stopped. The future fight for liberation will be against these problems faced by Goa and the people have to be a part of the liberation struggle of Goa,” said Kavlekar.
