PANJIM: Dy Speaker Michael Lobo, who has always been in the news for taking on his own government on several issues, on Tuesday dropped another bombshell when he said the country needs a leader like Congress president Rahul Gandhi.
Lobo, as per protocol, escorted Gandhi during his short visit to the Assembly and went gaga over the Congress president’s simplicity. “Rahul Gandhi is one of the leaders of the world, he is a very simple and very humble person who had come on private visit to Goa but made it a point to visit ailing Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, who was his colleague in the parliament and was earlier Defence minister,” Lobo told Herald in an exclusive chat.
The Calangute MLA further said that the two leaders may have differences of opinions or party affiliations but on humanitarian grounds as a good human, Gandhi has made sure to visit Manohar Parrikar.
Lobo opined that there were very few leaders like Gandhi in India and across the world and there was need for leaders like him who can keep political affiliations aside and show humanity.
“A simple humble person like him is required as a leader in India and who will also represent India internationally. This is not about politics. For him Parrikar is an opponent but he came to see him as he sees our CM as a god leader. He looked at Parrikar as a good person,” Lobo said.
Town and Country Planning Minister Vijai Sardesai said that Gandhi visiting Goa legislative Assembly and inquiring about Parrikar is a positive development in politics. “The political leadership of the country is concerned about the health and well being of even his opponent is something which has to be applauded,” he said.
He added, “It is lesson especially for the state unit of the Congress party that even though your ideology is different the health and well being of your opponent is a matter of concern.”
