PERNEM: Deputy Chief Minister Manohar Ajgaonkar along with GSIDC officials, Pernem Municipal Council (PMC) chairperson Usha Nagvekar and councillors on Thursday visited the waste treatment plant on Pernem Plateau and inspected the trial work of converting plastic waste into fuel.
The DyCM informed that the plant at present has commenced on trial basis and will soon be officially inaugurated by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant.
The plant spread across an area of 8,000 sq mts has been a white elephant for Pernem since June 2016. The first stone was laid in 2013 however the plant remained non-functional for almost three-and-a-half years till the second stone was laid in 2016. Despite this, the plant remained non-functional.
The government has entered into an agreement with M K Aromatics Ltd, a Tamil Nadu-based company as the plant will be functioning on a revenue sharing basis.
The plant will treat plastic waste and convert the same into crude oil.
