PANJIM: Deputy Superintendent of Police Uttam Raut Desai succumbed to COVID-19 while undergoing treatment at Goa Medical College and Hospital, Bambolim, on Tuesday.
The 1987-batch officer, who joined the Goa Police Service as a Police Sub Inspector, was a native of Quepem.

He was detected with COVID-19 around third week of April and was admitted in the Special Ward of GMCH. Sources said his condition deteriorated a couple of days back after which he was shifted to the CCU. He however lost the battle to virus, on Tuesday.
Sources said Desai had undergone a bypass surgery earlier this year. He returned to work less than a month after recovery.
After his promotion to the post of DySP around four years ago, he was posted as Quepem’s Sub Divisional Police Officer in 2017 year and later transferred to Panjim in 2019 year.
