MARGAO: The e-waste collection drive initiated by Saviourites Alumni Association at Loutolim was a huge success with people from the two villages of Loutolim and Camorlim handing over their e-waste very gladly. In fact the waste collected on Saturday and Sunday was around 400 kgs.
There were quite a few computers handed over by the people. “We did not know what to do with the computer that had stopped working for some time and this was an excellent place for us to dispose it off,” said one youngster who had come with his computer.
The e-waste collected was taken to Global E-Waste Management System in the evening as it is a company authorized and licensed to collect and dismantle electronic items.
The organizers also held awareness programmes on e-waste. On Saturday the programme was held for school students and staff with Soham Prabhu the CEO of Global E-Waste Management System explaining about e-waste and the proper method to dispose it.
On Sunday the awareness programme was held for public and Environmental Consultant Sushant Figueiredo spoke on the hazards of e-waste and also how it can be recycled.
Daniel Alvis of Saviourites Alumni Association disclosed that they have also been distributing non-plastic bags to people in the village to be used for shopping.
and further added that they have distributed 400 fruit bearing trees that were provided to them by local MLA Wilfred D’Sa.
