PANJIM: Election commission of India (ECI) on Sunday has ordered February 7 as the fresh date for re-polling at Aquem booth in the Margao constituency after voting was cancelled due to faulty procedure.
The order released by the ECI states that re-polling for polling station no 8 at Government Primary School, T.B. Cunha, Aquem, Margao in 31 Margao Assembly Constituency will be held on February 7, 2017 (Tuesday).
The date was fixed by the poll panel under sub-section (2) of Section 58 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951 and the hours of polling will be between 7am and 5pm.
The incident occurred on February 4 after the presiding officer of booth no 8 at Aquem in Margao constituency forgot to clear the votes cast in the EVM during the mock polling session.
The presiding officer, however, forgot to clear a total of 50 votes which were casted by the polling officials of candidates during their mock poll and had started actual polling without wiping off the mock poll votes and this was brought to the notice only after several people had already cast their votes but the officials could not match the voter count.
Meanwhile, this serious lag forced the Election Commission (EC) to order re-polls in Aquem booth No. 8 of Margao constituency.
