PANJIM: The Election Commissioner Ashok Lavasa has set 100 per cent voter enrollment target for Goa during the ongoing Elector Verification programme (EVP), which is underway across country to improve the health of electoral rolls.
Lavasa, who was in Goa on Friday reviewed the quality and health of electoral roll, preparedness for Special Summary Revision 2020 and progress of the Elector Verification Programme during his meeting with Chief Electoral Officer Kunal; Collector North R Menaka; Collector South Ajit Roy; Additional CEO Narayan Sawant and others.
During the meeting, Commissioner highlighted the purpose of the EVP and emphasised that EVP has been launched from September 1 to October 15 to improve the health of electoral rolls with people’s participation and augment enrollment of all eligible citizens during special summary revision of the electoral rolls.
He stated that, being a small and highly literate State, Goa has all the potential to have 100 per cent enrollment of all eligible voters. He also called upon the officials to see that no person in age group of 18 to 19 years remains unregistered as electors.
To achieve the 100 per cent target, Lavasa urged officers to refer Census Report of 2011 and compare micro level data for possible gaps in enrollment.
Lavasa has directed the District Election Officers cum Collectors to approach all educational institutions to encourage them to see that every student above the age of 18 as on January 1, 2020 is registered as voter and certify that their Educational Institution has 100 per cent voter enrollment.
“Goa can declare itself as 100 per cent voter enrollment in all educational institutions,” he said.
He also stressed the need to create more awareness for successful EVP so that verification or authentication of elector’s details is done through crowd sourcing and verification through field inputs by every officer by organising regular camps in markets, offices, villages and making use of Chunav Pathshalas, Voter Awareness Forums.
The CEO Goa informed that the machinery has been geared up for success of the programme with innovative use of social media for voter education and paperless conduct of entire exercise with active participation of voters as voters in Goa are use to modern technology.
He said that he electors will be motivated to use Voter Helpline App and nvsp.inportal of Election Commission of India for this exercise.
