ECI directs special summary revision of voters

Revision will begin on Sept 18; Final roll will be published on January 8, 2018

PANJIM: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has directed the Goa election office to undertake a special summary revision of photo electoral rolls across all Assembly constituencies with January 1, 2018 as the qualifying date.
The Chief Electoral Office (CEO) will begin the revision of electoral rolls from September 18, with January 8, 2018 as the final publication date of the updated database.
“The Commission has decided to take up revision of electoral rolls with reference to January 1, 2018 as the qualifying date. The revision shall be a special summary revision in all States and Union Territories (except Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh),” ECI said in its letter.
ECI has specified that there will be no change in the dates. The revision will ensure that the electoral rolls are published much before National Voters’ Day on January 25, 2018, so that EPICs generated for new electors, especially young voters (18-19 years), can be distributed on that day.
For filing fresh claims, the draft electoral roll will be kept open from September 18 to October 10.
