PANJIM: The Kadamba Transport Corporation Limited (KTCL) will not able to execute its decision to regularise 150-odd agitating contract workers until Election Code of Conduct is in force.
The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Tuesday directed the KTC to put on hold its proposal to regularise contract workers as also not to give bonus arrears of two years to its employees.
The KTC had sent the proposals to ECI for approval. The Joint Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Narayan Navti when contacted, said they have asked to KTC to put its proposal on hold as it amounts to giving mass benefits and permission could not be given.
The ECI today also directed all departments not to give promotions to anyone. The PWD and the Health Department are likely to be hit the most by the new directive.
Meanwhile, the ECI on Tuesday ordered Social Welfare Department to withhold five job appointments.
The Department of Information and Publicity has also come under the scanner of the ECI. The Information Department had started distributing diaries and calendars however it will have to put it on hold as ECI wants to checks them for objectionable content.
