PORVORIM: The Economic Survey 2022-23 has projected that Goa’s economy will witness growth of 10.33 per cent during the upcoming financial year 2023-24 as the State government has anticipated resumption of mining activities during the period.
According to the ES, which was tabled in the House on Tuesday, the Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) witnessed a growth of 9.11 per cent for the year 2021-22, with secondary sector being the major contributor (52.06 per cent). The primary sector contribution has seen a decline to 7.84 per cent, while the tertiary sector too contributed at higher side with 40.10 per cent in GSDP.
At current prices for the year 2021-22 (quick estimate) is Rs 82,603.70 crore as against Rs 75,705.40 crore (provisional) for the year 2020-21.
“As per the advanced estimates, the anticipated GSDPC at current prices in the State during 2022-23 is expected to reach Rs 90,641.86 crore,” it said.
“Goan economy will witness a growth of 10.33 per cent during 2023-24,” it said.
This will be mainly due to opening of the newly constructed Manohar International Airport at Mopa, setting up of various institutions for higher education, introduction of several policies of utmost importance such as tourism policy and the anticipated resumption of mining activities, etc,” the document stated.
The analysis over the year shows that the contribution of the primary sector witnessed a decrease of 7.07 per cent in 2018-19 and thereafter registered an increase of 7.64 per cent in 2019-20 and further increased to 8.20 per cent in 2020-21. However, in 2021-22, it is expected to drop down to 7.84 per cent.
On the other hand, the contribution of secondary sector to GSDP, which accounted to 52.75 per cent in 2018-19 and 54.25 per cent in2018-19, has witnessed a sharp drop and stood at 52.06 per cent in 2021-22.
