PANJIM: With resentment growing against the extension of school timings by half hour, the education ministry may place the matter before its committee which had worked out the new school calendar for the academic year and the increase in instructional hours and working days.
The department of education, has reportedly moved a file to the chief minister compiling all the complaints and grievances received during the last month over the issue, in addition to submitting reports of all meetings held between the aggrieved sections and government and chief minister during the last few weeks.
“We have sent a file to the chief minister apprising him of all the views that have come in,” The additional director, Anil Powar said Wednesday.
Powar opined that the matter may have to be placed before the committee which had chalked out the new school calendar and timings for their opinion before the government decides on an action plan.
So far, the government is determined not to revert to the old timings even as it is also toying with the idea of full day schooling in the near future.
Meanwhile, restlessness is setting in over the government’s silence over the demands from parents to roll back the extended school timings.
While views of the parent community had been heard from South Goa last week, parents in the North are still awaiting an opportunity to express their concerns on the timings.
Many schools which had not commenced implementing the new time schedules have done so with much hesitation hoping for a workable solution at the earliest.
In the meantime, the education department Wednesday said that distribution of textbooks to students has almost come to an end.
The next focus would be on distribution of school uniforms to students of classes I and III of government schools.
Powar said, “We will be supplying the uniforms by the third week of August.”
REVIEW OF SPORTS POLICY: The Goa government is in process of reviewing its Sports policy on the lines of the comprehensive policy in force in Maharashtra.
A second round of deliberation was held Tuesday with officials from the sports ministry and education ministry asked to submit their recommendations on the same.
Sports marks allotment to students is on top of the agenda with plans to rationalise the system.
