Education workshop on waste management held

MARGAO: Goa with Love organised and conducted their first education workshop on waste management today at the municipal hall, Margao meant to educate the citizens on waste management and to inform them about the successfull working models of Goa.

The function was attended by the chairperson and councillors of the Margao Municipal council along with many prominent citizens of Margao. 
Rosario Dantas a well known waste manager whose experience working for an American garbage management company helped him set up a very successful model, explained how he set up the system in Curchorem and helped drive it successfully by periodic training education and monitoring of the system. He offered to help the citizens of Margao draw up an effective plan to solve the problem ward wise.
Clinton Vaz, a well known recycling businessman explained how his model of segregation and collection is well received by over 7000 homes in Goa. His presentation which highlighted Margao’s woes stressed on the point that it was necessary to educate the people on segregation, reuse and recycling. 
Patricia Pinto, who pioneered the transformation of Panjim explained how she started the revolution in Panjim which was covered with waste. She recalled the days when the cement bins and dome shaped trucks made the rounds with garbage strewn all over the city. She spoke how grave circumstances at the dumping site in Curca forced them to start composting within Panjim city itself and how the dry waste was sorted out and sold to earn revenue for the council. She also spoke of how her stint in the council as a councillor further helped the endeavour as they managed to fund machinery and infrastructure to strengthen the movement. 
The workshop ended with participants asking the speakers questions relevant to their subjects and dropping suggestions and ideas in a suggestion box provided.
