PANJIM: In view of heavy rainfall warning issued by weather department, the State government has declared holiday to all educational institutions on Thursday, July 6.
The Directorate of Education and the Directorate of Higher Education in separate circulars issued, have declared holiday for students from Standard I to XII and for colleges as well as staff on Thursday.
However, wherever there are scheduled examinations, the same will not be cancelled and students will have to answer the examinations.
Director of Education Shailesh Zingade said that the decision has been taken in view of the incessant rain and alert issued by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), Goa Centre predicting heavy to very heavy rainfall and extremely heavy rainfall over the State and keeping in mind the safety of young children in the schools.
“Due to heavy rains and Red Alert declared there shall be a holiday for all educational institutions under the control of the Directorate of Higher Education tomorrow (Thursday, July 6, 2023) except wherever there are examinations,” the DHE said in its circular.
Soon after the circular, confusion prevailed as some ADEIs asked the school heads to direct the staff to report for duty on Thursday. However, later the department clarified that it’s a holiday for all thereby clearing the air.
Meanwhile, the State has been put on red alert for Wednesday while Orange colour warning has been issued for the next two days — Thursday and Friday with possibility of heavy to very heavy rains.
