PANJIM: Hectic efforts are on to extend the tenure of Haj Committee Chairman Shaikh Jina, whose two consecutive terms of three-year each end in July this year.
Jina, a BJP functionary will complete his two consecutive terms in July and as per the Rule 22, no person can hold the office of the chairman for more than two consecutive terms.
It is reliably learnt that the government is seriously considering to give another three-year term to Shaikh Jina, who is a BJP functionary and has held various positions in theparty in the past.
When contacted, Jina said that his term ends in July this year and it is upto the government to decide on extending the term.
Jina further informed that so far 70 pilgrims have applied for this year’s Haj pilgrimage even as the last date for the same has been extended.
He said that due to COVID-19 pandemic, pilgrims could not embark on Haj pilgrimage for last two years. Also this year, only those below 65 years of age and with both doses of COVID-19 vaccine will be allowed to travel to Saudi Arabia for Haj.
