Eight arrested for staying illegally at Chimbel

PANJIM: Continuing their drive against those staying in the State without valid documents, the Old Goa police on Saturday arrested eight persons at Chimbel during tenant verification.

During the checking, the police found that the eight persons failed to produce proper identification documents. Legal action will be taken against them, the police said.

The Colvale police had earlier arrested 96 persons residing illegally in the “Lala Ki Basti” at Tivim.

On Saturday, the Colvale police arrested 10 persons at the Tivim Railway station during a special drive to check anti-social elements and to check travellers carrying liquor and other contrabands.

The Goa police have started a State-wide drive against people staying in the State without valid documents in the wake of rising criminal activities in the State and to curb them.

The police suspect that anti-social elements and criminals have been residing in rented accommodations without the submission of tenant verification forms by the house owners. The police have also warned house owners who have been renting out their premises without submitted tenant verification forms.
