MARGAO: Eight accused in the former minister Ramesh Tawadkar assault case were acquitted by the Court of Judicial Magistrate First Class. The case pertains to the assault on Tawadkar during UTAA riots in Balli in 2011.
The accused have been acquitted due to lack of evidence.
The accused were charged with forming an unlawful assembly, instigation and assault on Tawadkar. Fifty-five witnesses testified in the case. The rampage and the resultant riots during the UTAA agitation on May 25, 2011 had three different cases being heard in court of which two have come to an end.
