MARGAO: The Electricity Department has scheduled a major power shutdown next Sunday, December 17.
The planned maintenance is crucial for the upkeep of Extra High Voltage (EHV) substations, ensuring the reliability and efficiency of the power infrastructure in the district, said the Electricity Department.
Superintending Engineer (SE), Margao (Circle-I, South), stated that there will be no power supply between 7 am and 3 pm in the entire South Goa district. However, major parts of Ponda taluka and specific areas like Raia, Curtorim, Loutolim, and Macazana will be exempt from the outage.
The planned shutdown will affect the entire talukas of Canacona, Salcete (excluding Raia, Curtorim, Loutolim, and Macnaza), Sanguem, Quepem, Mormugao, and parts of Dharbandora taluka, including Village Panchayats Kirlapal-Dabal, Shigao-Collem, Mollem, and part of Ponda taluka, i.e., Village Panchayat Panchwadi.
The Industrial Estates in South Goa and Selaulim water works at Xelpem will also experience the power disruption.
The annual shutdown is specifically scheduled for the maintenance of critical 220KV and 110KV Extra High Voltage (EHV) interstate and interstate lines, along with EHV substations at Xeldem, Cuncolim, and Verna. The initiative aims to enhance the reliability and efficiency of the power infrastructure in the region, focusing on key substations and transmission lines.
