Ek Istor, a tiatr written by Aamar P Sawanth, directed by Sreyash Kalangutkar and presented by Sushma Sawant Productions, Sangolda dwells on the issue of AIDS and how those affected by it get into a bonding unconditionally.
With a prior appointment, Sreyash (Sreyash Kalangutkar) meets Ana (Antonet de Souza). While the former is affected by the dreaded disease getting infected through a tattoo and is in the initial stages, the latter has got it through her parents and has reached an advanced stage.
The duo shares many things related to their disease, which include their attempt to commit suicide. But circumstances do not prompt either of them to take that drastic step.
After much talk and facing the hard reality of life, will the affected couple agree to come to a consensus and get married? Does religion come as a barrier in their path? What prompts Ana to change her mind and accept Sreyash as her life partner?
Although ‘Ek Istor’ has a story to relate and the entire plot revolves around these two personalities, though flashbacks and narration help the tale to progress and reach a climax. As the story was related to a serious issue, the element of laughter was a little jarring, except in one act during the second half.
Antonet de Souza looked much at ease in her character and enacted her role naturally and promptly. She was ably assisted by Sreyash Kalangutkar, who produced an excellent performance. Other artistes also extended good support to the main cast.
Although a handful of singers made their appearance from the commercial tiatrs, solos by George Gonsalves and David Rodrigues, besides a choral by Domnic, Gregory and Aniceto were appealing to the ears.
The execution of lights by Domnic D’Costa, besides the background music by Prajyot Naik needs to be commended.
