CANACONA: A rally to mark Rashtriya Ekta Diwas (National Unity Day) which was introduced by the Govt of India in 2014 to pay tribute to Vallabhbhai Patel was taken out from KTC bus stand till Gaitonde mini sports complex in Canacona.
The rally was held in the morning hours of Tuesday with participation from various government offices like police, traffic, mamlatdar office, PWD, and local educational institutions.
The rally with over 600 participants wound its way from the KTC bus stand through the market and ended at Gaitonde mini sports complex.
Speaking on the occasion, resource person Anil Kamat elaborated the importance of October 31 as Rashtriya ekta diwas which is the birthday of Sardar Vallabhai Patel who was instrumental in keeping India united. It is to be celebrated on October 31 every year as annual commemoration of the birthday of the Iron Man of India Sardar Vallabhai Patel, one of the founding leaders of Republic of India.
The programme ended with a vote of thanks from Canacona Mamlatdar Ramesh Gaonkar. Others present were Deputy Collector Kedar Naik, heads of government departments and local dignitaries.
