Election office holds workshop for political parties

CEO meets political party representatives in view of Lok Sabha polls; emphasises on maintaining good practices and transparency to ensure peaceful and fair elections in the State

PANJIM: In preparation for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, Chief Electoral Officer Ramesh Verma, IAS apprised representatives of political parties about various election related aspects and the need for a closer liaison between political parties and administrative machinery in ensuring a free and fair polls.

During a workshop organised for political parties at Kar Bhavan. Altinho, Verma stressed upon the central role of political parties in a vibrant democracy like India. In his opening remarks, he apprised the representatives of various election related aspects highlighting the need for a closer liaison between political parties and administrative machinery in ensuring a free, fair and civil disclosure both during and after the election processes. He also emphasised on maintaining good practices and transparency to ensure peaceful and fair elections in the state.

The training covered all important aspects of the election process like nomination, qualification and disqualification, EVM preparedness, Election Expenditure Monitoring, Model Code of Conduct, Media Certification and Monitoring Committees, poll day arrangements besides maintenance of books of accounts by the contesting candidates of political parties and timely filing of expenditure statements.

National and State Level Master Trainers Venancio Furtado, Johnson Fernandes, Surendra F Naik, Vishant Gaunekar, Dr Snehal Goltekar, Harikrishna Nair and Dr Shantanu Gauns imparted the training on various topics.

The workshop was attended by representatives of major political parties of Goa including members of national and State political parties like Indian National Congress, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Goa Forward Party and others.
