Elections nearly ground Vasco pre-monsoon work

VASCO: Pre-monsoon work at Vasco is nearly grounded in the absence of labour force. Nevertheless, the work would be completed by mid May, a municipal source said.
Municipal Chief Officer Agnelo Fernandes said that around 25 workers have gone to their native places for election; besides, the municipal staffers are busy with the election duty.
A municipal staffer informed that they have already started the work of cleaning the drains in some wards. The estimated budget for the pre-monsoon work is around Rs 20 lakh.
Fernandes informed that the work order has been given and the work is expected to start after the code of conduct comes to an end.
When asked why pre-monsoon work was going slow, he said that most of the labourers of the municipality are from other States and they have gone to their native places for casting their votes.
“Therefore the existing labour force gets divided and the work speed also decreases,” a staffer said adding the work would be completed by mid-May.
