NEW DELHI: The Election Commission on Tuesday launched a new electoral roll search at the national level for the voters to search for their names and the polling booths.
The service is available in 16 states and union territories and it will be made available for the rest soon, Commission director Dhirendra Ojha said.
The states for which the service is up are Goa, Gujarat, Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Himachal Pradesh, Puducherry, Punjab, Sikkim, Tripura, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand.
Anybody can access the service using Internet or SMS free of cost from anywhere in the country. Android users can also download an App from the mobile application store to access the service.
The Internet users can access the information by clicking on the “voter search” on the commission’s website <eci.gov.in> while the mobile internet users can get it on <electoralsearch.in>.
One can send SMS to 09223166166 with a word “ECI” followed by details such as name, name of father/husband, locality, age or date of birth and gender, separated by commas. For instance, an SMS ECI Prabhat Signla would fetch his details in a nationwide search of the voters.
In addition to this all-India phone number, the commission has also provided a
3-digit number of 166 for users of BSNL, MTNL, ata Docomo, Tata Indicom and Vodafone, while the same service is also available on 51969 for users of BSNL, Aircel, Airtel, Idea, MTS, Reliance, Tata Docomo, Tata Indicom, Uninor, Videocon and Vodafone.
