Electricity Dept contractor installs ‘work in progress’ sign near open pit

PONDA: Following public concerns and a local social worker’s proactive efforts, a potentially hazardous trench (pit) left unmanned on the Ponda-Dhavali Main Road has been addressed.

The GED Contractor responsible for the site has installed a ‘Work in Progress’ signboard to alert commuters and pedestrians about the ongoing construction activity, following O Heraldo’s report highlighting the lapse.

The trench, which was dangerously positioned and could pose a serious threat to both motorists and pedestrians, raised alarm in the community. Activist Viraj Sapre, along with local residents, had expressed concerns about the open pit within the white border line of the road, pushing for urgent action to prevent accidents.

Sapre had previously filed a police complaint about open pits and negligence during road infrastructure work and digging activities.
