Electricity Dept cuts Mapusa Police Station power supply

MAPUSA: The Goa Electricity Department disconnected power supply of Mapusa Police Station on Friday due to the non-payment of pending dues amounting to Rs 19 lakh.
Following the disconnection, it came to light that the police station had a temporary connection and a huge outstanding bill amount was to be paid and not a single payment was made since the inauguration of the new police station building, comprising of a ground plus-two structure.
This led to all administrative work at the Mapusa Police Station coming to a halt on Friday morning.
Police Inspector Kapil Nayak confirmed that they did not have electricity in the morning for a while.
“The police station had a pending bill of Rs 19 lakh hence they disconnected the power to the police station on Friday. We have sent the bill to the accounts section to do the needful and also informed our superiors about the incident. Power was restored after a little over an hour’s time.  It caused inconvenience as all our work is online. The station dairy and other details have to be filled online,” he added. 
“For the last three years electricity bills were not paid and they were on a temporary connection as well. The power was disconnected on Friday and it was also restored quickly. After moving to the new police station building in 2016, not a single bill has been paid. Now, they are in the process of completing the pending formalities,” said an Electricity Department official on the condition of anonymity.
