MARGAO: Constant power fluctuations and poor power supply were the main issues discussed at the Macazana gram sabha, which also passed a unanimous resolution to not allow mobile towers on private land.
Regarding the need for better connectivity, the members suggested that mobile towers could be installed on land belonging to the church. They stated that church could generate revenue this way and that the church had sent a letter to the panchayat expressing willingness to grant permission for a mobile tower to be installed in its property.
At the hour-long gram sabha, the villagers described the situation in the village with erratic power supply. They also criticised the electricity department for the same and for not addressing their grievances despite repeated complaints through the proper channels, right up to Power Minister Milind Naik.
The gram sabha also pointed out that the department had not even completed pre-monsoon works in the village, which includes cutting branches and creepers that touch overhead lines and cause power outages.
