PANJIM: The destructive Cyclone Tauktae did not spare even Raj Bhavan, which is located on the rocky cliff at Cabo, Dona Paula.
A large number of trees fell in the property that resulted in the felling of 11 electric poles that snapped the power cables.
Power Department officials pointed out that Raj Bhavan had a power back up since Sunday. However, the tough terrain conditions of the area and number of uprooted trees created problems such as access and drilling of the land for reinstalling the poles. Staff and labour were present on the site on Friday.
Regarding power outages in other parts of Goa, they thanked members of the public that came forward to help their staff in carrying out repair works in their respective residential areas.
They attributed the delays in certain areas in restoring power to the type of faults that had occurred including power leakages, which required considerable time before the repair works could be completed. They added that works in some dense forest areas were still being undertaken.
The officials also denied the perception that the department did not have enough manpower and said they only required additional labour from other States because of the sheer volume of the repair works that needed to be done in a short period. They pointed out that in normal circumstances, they have the requisite staff who are experienced enough to carry out repair works themselves.
