Encapsulating the State’s essence, ‘Spirit of Goa’ fest ends on a high note at Colva

Tourism Director says these events help sustain and enhance the State’s identity

PANJIM: A three-day ‘Spirit of Goa’ fest, organised by the Department of Tourism concluded with resounding excitement at the SAG ground, Colva. The event celebrated Goa’s music scene leaving attendees with unforgettable experiences.

Director of Tourism and Managing Director of GTDC, Suneel Anchipaka, IAS, stated that festivals like the Spirit of Goa are vital for preserving and promoting the Goan music, food and traditional dances. This event provided a platform for local artistes to showcase their talents, attract tourism, and foster a sense of community among attendees. By celebrating the unique traditions and modern expressions of Goan culture, these events help sustain and enhance the State’s identity, ensuring it is passed down to future generations, he said.

The ‘Spirit of Goa’ fest aimed to promote Goan music, food and the local community. It served as a platform to showcase the traditional dances, music, food and more additionally, the festival highlighted a variety of products, beverages, cuisines, and handicrafts made from coconut and cashew, along with various versions of homegrown spirits like urrack, feni, and niro. Clay pot making stalls also offered visitors a hands-on experience with traditional Goan crafts.

The event featured a mesmerising lineup of performances that showcased Goa’s diverse musical talents. Audience was enthralled by performances from ‘Forefront’, ‘Pure Magic’, and ‘The Imperial’. The renowned Kanta Gaude troupe added authenticity to the evening with their traditional Goan dances. Other highlights included captivating performances by Goa’s pride, Hema Sardesai, and dynamic sets from ‘Altitude’, ‘Jukebox Trio’, ‘24K India’, ‘Crimson Tide’ and ‘Band Ambassadors’. 

The festival transcended a mere music event; it was a vibrant celebration of Goa’s distinctive spirit. By uniting locals and visitors, the festival showcased the beauty of the Goan community. This festival encapsulated the essence of Goa and its people, states a press release.
