MARGAO: Citizens and shopkeepers have demanded that Margao Municipal Council has to come out with a comprehensive policy for the development and maintenance of passages so as to enable the customers to move freely in the markets.

At present, vendors here have brazenly encroached and dumped goods in the markets making it difficult for people to move around freely here. While the Council prefers to see no evil, the encroachers are having a field day.

Earlier there were passages meant for public to walk  and it is alleged that some people have even converted the place allotted to them sell their wares into kiosks with the blessings of the city fathers

Illegal encroachments are not only seen in the market but have also spread to the roadside with several kiosks mushrooming overnight, only to add to the over increasing number of vendors,  say locals.

In a surprising development, the overnight stalls which cropped up at Aquem near the Power House   and other places along the KTC bus stand have been demolished by the authorities here but the illegalites by the roadside near the KTC bus-stand at Margao   and  Fatorda have remained untouched.
