PONDA: Ponda Deputy Collector Pradeep Naik has issued notices to owners of two kiosks at Opa-Khandepar junction directing them to submit their documents following complaints that they have encroached upon the PWD acquired land at the junction.
It may be recalled that the locals had complained to the PWD and the Deputy Collector alleging that the PWD land by the roadside, which was acquired for a bus stop, was encroached upon by the above kiosks. The PWD has directed the local panchayat to clear the encroachments on the land acquired by the department.
Sandeep Parkar, a resident said, “A landlord allotted his land to PWD by the roadside to construct a bus shed following fatal accident a few decades ago. Today, the need for a bus shed the need of the hour as hundreds of students stand by the roadside waiting for the bus after school hours.
Recently, a school student was hit by speeding car while waiting for a bus, while a few months ago a speeding truck rammed into a hotel at Opa-Khandepar Junction. Following these incidents, the parents and locals have raised concerns and have demanded the construction of a bus shed for safety of school students at the junction.
