ENDLESS Queues and chaos: Citizens struggle to obtain, update Aadhaar ahead of June 30 deadline

MARGAO: With the deadline for linking Pan and Aadhaar documents approaching soon, locals from Margao have been complaining about various hurdles they face while trying to get their Aadhaar cards corrected or updated.

There have been commotions at the government centres like the at the South Goa District Collectorate on Friday with irate citizens upset with the slow pace at which their applications for Aadhar card-related registration are being handled.

The last day for linking Pan with Aadhaar is June 30, 2023, with a fine payable to the Income Tax Department.

However, over the last few months, there have been lengthy queues at these centres, with citizens waiting endlessly to get their applicationsprocessed worried that they may miss this deadline.

Citizens complain that they are being asked to visit the centre multiple times despite being given a token number and an appointment with specific date and time. Getting this token number itself is hard, they say.

Others, meanwhile, are facing problems in obtaining a new Aadhaar card as well.

“The booking day to make an appointment online is only Fridays, at 10 am. All slots get taken within two minutes’ time. This is the online portal for booking. We’ve been trying to get an appointment for weeks now. But it’s the same story each time,” said David Aguiar from Salcete, who has been trying to obtain a new Aadhaar card for his young daughter.
