‘Engage private docs to treat patients at Curchorem PHC under District Mineral Fund’

MARGAO:  Highlighting the requirements of the local population in the mining belt of South Goa, MLAs from the region have requested the South Goa District Collector to explore options for medical care by engaging private doctors and specialists at the local health centre.

During a recent meeting of the District Mineral Fund chaired by South District  Collector Asvin Chandru, Curchorem MLA Nilesh Cabral and Sanvordem MLA Ganesh Gaonkar raised this proposition.

With the imminent upgrade of the Curchorem Health Centre, the district mineral fund should consider involving private doctors to cater to patients at the PHC, they said.

Cabral pointed out that while it might take time for the government to equip the PHC adequately, the District Mineral Fund should not delay funding private medical experts for the residents in the mining belt. Drawing a parallel with the ESI hospital’s collaboration with private hospitals for labour class treatment, Cabral suggested a similar approach for residents in the mining belt through the District Mineral Fund.

Cabral proposed engaging private doctors, including radiologists and cardiologists, to serve patients from the mining belt at the Health Centre.
