Ensure AAP forms next govt: Chadha

Hears Benaulim residents’ grievances during his visit to party’s South Goa Zilla Panchayat member’s residence

PANJIM: Stating that the State is just 52 weeks away from the next Assembly elections, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Delhi MLA Raghav Chadha on Sunday called upon party volunteers to dedicate their full-time to ensure AAP forms the next government in the State.

Addressing the party volunteers, he said, “The normal graph of a political party is three unsuccessful elections before it becomes significant and relevant.” “However with the AAP, we tasted success at the very first elections we contested in Delhi,” he added.

He said, “AAP is all set to form the government in the 2022 Assembly elections and will not sit in the Opposition and for this, the party volunteers will be the torchbearers of the change as some of them will be new MLAs and even ministers.”

“I ask you to give your 100 per cent for the next 52 weeks to prepare the Goans for the next Assembly elections,” he said and admitted that some of them have their schedules and are busy with their work or business or studies.”

Meanwhile, Chadha interacted with around 150 residents of Benaulim and heard their grievances during his visit to party’s South Goa Zilla Panchayat member Hanzel Fernandes’ residence.

Initially, AAP Spokesperson Captain Venzy Viegas informed him about the problems the Benaulim residents are facing primarily because the same person, who has no vision to improve the constituency, has been representing it for the last many years.

“The taxi drivers have been having problems for years but they have not been addressed and the worst part is that though the constituency has tremendous scope for agriculture, mechanised farming has not been introduced,” he said.

Some seafarers who had gathered there at Komla Tolem lamented that when they were employed, the government had sought their help by launching the “Mhozo Ganv, Mhojem Goem” Scheme wherein non-resident Goans could give donations which were to be used for the State’s development.

“However, it’s been months now since we have no job and there is a job crunch with most of us not knowing when we will be called back onboard cruises and yet the State government has not given us any relief which is akin to just treating us as milch animals,” a seafarer alleged.

Capt Venzy pointed out that while all political parties only paid lip service to the seafarers’ community, AAP was the lone party to mention in the election manifesto for 2017 that if it comes to power it would set up a Seafarers’ Social Security Scheme.
