Entire nation will get 24×7 power supply by 2020, says Union Minister

MAPUSA: Union Minister R K Singh has assured that the whole of India will get 24×7 power supply by 2020.
He announced this during his visit to the Colvale Power Grid on Saturday.
He said, “Goa’s power infrastructure needs to be strengthened. We have asked the State Power Ministry to send proposal to avail the scheme to the Centre and we will work on it,” the minister said.
“If Goa Government indicates the sites for installing the hydroelectricity power generation plant, I’ll ask the national Hydro Power Corporation officials to come and visit the sites. If they find any site feasible then we will set up hydro power generation plant in Goa,” Singh added.
“There are two schemes namely DDGY for rural and IPDS for urban areas. We have also installed several feeders and sub stations to strengthen power distribution system. All power grids in country are now linked and power can be transferred from one corner of the country to another. All the villages and houses have been connected except a few in Chhattisgarh,” Singh added.
“Our main objective is to provide power supply on regular basis so that power generator is not needed as a backup. Our government has made India surplus in power generation,” Singh informed.
“T&D losses were around 18.5% last year and we want to bring it down to 15% in next two years. Many big companies are facing huge losses and distribution companies are in stress. These companies require help to recover the losses,” the minister said.
“Globally, we are ranked fourth and in solar we are at third spot. We will be in the top three within a year. We are changing our power needs and reducing carbon footprints. At a conference in Paris, we have committed that by 2030, 40 per cent of our established power generating capacity will come from renewable energy,” the minister informed and added that the country has sufficient power generating capacity.
